Subject: Modify Trumark Proposal to fill in 20-acre floodway of Kassis Site and preserve easements, trails and habitat important to the American River Parkway
Dear <Name of City & County Officials>,
Flood protection is a vital health and safety need of our region. For all our safety and protection do not infringe or diminish the Central Valley Flood Protection Board designated floodway. The American River Parkway and our connectivity to its hiking, biking, riding, and fishing access are treasured assets to our regional quality of life. There are recorded public access easements and trails over the former Kassis Property from Mira Del Rio to Stirling Park Drive and elsewhere.
Pursuant to these goals I request the following:
1. Please do not fill in 20-acres of the American River designated floodway. This channel is needed for the flood protection of people, property and flora and fauna of the American River Parkway. With billions of dollars spent on flood protection in our region and impending climate change predicting potential increased river channel capacity needs, this proposal is in the wrong direction for the protection of life, safety, and property in our region.
2. Please do not abandon recorded public easements and trails on the Kassis site intended to be part of the Parkway connectivity, public access and wildlife corridor.
3. Please preserve the planned bike access from Stirling Park Drive to Mira Del Rio Drive shown on the city bike plan, Sacramento Area Council Of Governments (SACOG) plan and consistent with the 1968 adopted American River Parkway Plan.
4. Please do not destroy the approximately 300 trees on the Kassis site and protect the 147 protected trees identified and associated with the site.
5. Please do not abandon the historic significance of the property including the cultural resource sites associated with the designated sacred land.
6. Require the proposed development be modified to remain on the 20-acre upper tier consistent with the Residential Mixed Use (RMU) Zoning under the Folsom Boulevard Specific Plan (FBSP) and General Plan (GP).
Sincerely,
(your name)
